We are so proud to be part of Team Qhubeka ASSOS who have been on fire at the 2021 Giro d’Italia. Max Walscheid ensured the team ended the race on a high note, as he placed 6th on the final stage.
The final stage of the Giro d’Italia saw the riders have to take on a 30km individual time trial from Senago to Milan, finishing in front of the Duomo di Milano.
Max Walscheid, continued to show his time trialing abilities are ever improving as he set a blistering time over the mostly flat course to momentarily move into the hot seat.
After already taking 8th on the opening stage time trial, Walscheid put in another stellar performance against the clock as his time during stage 21 would be good enough for 6th place on the day.
Congratulations to this amazing team, with a special mention for Mauro Schmid, Giacomo Nizzolo and Victor Campenaerts (supported by teammates Maxwal Scheid and Lukas Zwisniowski) who took out stages 11, 13 and 15 respectively. “We cannot go alone, we’re stronger as a team together, and the spirit we have in the Giro is building up to an even greater spirit. Our mission as a team is to change lives with bicycles and the Qhubeka Charity, these successes mean that we play our part in changing the world.” – Victor Campenaerts, 2021.
Victor Campenaerts, after winning stage 15 of the Giro d’Italia, was forced to withdraw from the race due to a leg injury. The Team Qhubeka ASSOS rider experienced pain in his right knee during the cold and wet conditions on stage 16 but managed to finish in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Following extensive treatment to a tendon problem on Monday evening and then subsequently on Tuesday’s rest day, it was decided by the team’s medical staff that he should withdraw to reduce risk of further aggravating the injury.
Campenaerts leaves the race having put in consistently impressive performances for the team culminating with his victory in Gorizia, Team Qhubeka ASSOS’ third win of the 104th Giro d’Italia.
Team Qhubeka Assos race for change and regardless of the challenges they face, they never give up. (and neither does their SolRX sunscreen #UltimateSportSunscreen).
